Battery Percentage Level Display on iPhone 2G and 3G

by Alvin on November 9, 2009

Last night, I was having my dinner with my friend, who is using iPhone 3G and asked,

Why your iPhone 3GS can display the battery level in percentage on the status bar and my iPhone 3G can’t?

Then, I told him that the battery percentage level display is available on iPhone 3GS only and it is not applicable for iPhone 2G/3G. If you wish to have this feature on your iPhone 3G, you can install “asBattery” to show the battery level in percentage on the status bar.

And on that night, I’ve helped him to install “asBattery” on his iPhone 3G and I guess it would be a useful tip if I can show you the steps here.

1. Make sure your iPhone 2G/3G is jailbroken. Follow this step-by-step guide if it’s not already.

2. Launch cydia and on “Manage” tab, select “Sources”.

3. Tap “Edit” follow by “Add” buttons. Then, type in “http://apt.iphone-storege.de/ and tap “Add Source”.

Note: Cydia will verify and update the sources entered. Return to “Sources” and tab “Done”.

4. Select “apt.iphone-storage.de” and look for “asBattery”.

5. Tab “Install” follow by “Confirm” buttons to start the installation.

Note: Reboot your iPhone 2G/3G after the installation has completed.

6. Once rebooted, navigate to Settings, General, Usage and turn on “Battery Percentage”. You’ll find the battery percentage on the status bar.

I’ve also installed and tested “asBattery” on iPhone 2G. And if you’ve just got your iPhone 3GS, you can turn on the Battery Percentage (it’s not turn on by default) by navigating to Settings, General and Usage.
